Winner of the Awards Docúpolis 07

“Welcome Europe”, winner of Docúpolis 07
 
Amongst the huge variety of thematic of this years’ competitors, finally a story about immigration succeed the Docúpolis Award and convinced the jury, composed by Marc Roig, Maria Camí and Daniela Aronica. The documentary Welcome Europe by Bruno Ulmer from Belgium is the winner of this seventh edition and takes 6.000 euros as well as the recognition to be selected as best documental work amongst more than 600 competitors from all over the world.

This years’ edition of Docúpolis denotes six World Premieres, eight European and eleven debut performances of Documentaries in Spain.

Short film of Julio Medem before the projection of the documentary
What´s under your hat? (¿Qué tienes debajo del sombrero?)

Next Friday the 5th of october at 11 o’clock pm in the Auditorium of the CCCB, we’ll project the shortfilm Clecla directed by Julio Medem, before the scheduled documentary What’s under your hat?, competitor for the Docúpolis Award.

The shortfilm belongs to the internet project of short films notodofilmfest.com and was shooted in 2001. Julio Medem realized a movie about his daughter Alicia, who has the Down-Syndrome and tells us about her imanigary friend Clecla. (More information under www.juliomedem.org)

Subsequent to the short film we will project ¿Qué tienes debajo del sombrero?, a documentary by Lola Barrera and Iñaki Peñafiel, which narrates the life of Judith Scott, a 62 years old sculptor, who also has the Down-Syndrome. Afer 36 years living unbeknown in a mental institution, now she receives recognition by the international art scene.

OFF DOCÚPOLIS Award, from parallel activity to honorific award
Next October, the section OFF DOCÚPOLIS emerges as one of the official prices within the competition. Although remaining honorific, thereby we intend to give more attention and publicity to this productions, which poked out of the high number of participations – this year over 1200 submissions – due to their quality and their will to take a risk. The section OFF provides a screen to these documentaries which shouldn’t remain concealed. 
We always considerate this section as one of the main pillar in our program, which offers space for experimental and courageously works, that are fundamental within the present documentary production. 
The selection is not only going to compete for the new award OFF DOCÚPOLIS, but also for the honorific prices already established.

Globalisation and variety of topics among the selected documentaries for the Docúpolis Prize
The competitors have documented diverse realities, speaking both of actuality and history, for the categories of Best documentary, Best First Documentary and Best Short Film.
The VII International Documentary Festival of Barcelona – Docúpolis has published the selection of documentaries for the competition. The organization has selected a dozen of finalists for each of the prizes of the official competition: Docúpolis Award, Best First Documentary Award, and Gran Angular Award – TVE Catalunya for the Best Short Documentary film.

The selected documentaries for the Docúpolis Award compete to win 6.000 euros. The finalists have been chosen for their remarkable works of rigor and artistic ability to explain the reality in many different places around the world. Human conflicts, artistic reflections, violation of human rights and problems derivated from globalization, as the unfair relations or the immigration, are some of the topics which have been chosen by the directors.

Docúpolis consolidates as the reference documentary’s festival of southern EuropeThe seventh edition of the International Documentary Festival of Barcelona – Docúpolis has registered an unprecedent figure of original films (1.200) from 68 countries of the five continents.
Most of the documentaries that participate in the different categories come from various European countries.

Patricio Guzmán at the Seminar 2007
Patricio Guzmán will give the lesson of the seminar at the seventh edition of the Docupolis Festival. Guzmán, one of the most recognized documentary directors will speak about the fases of this type of audiovisual. The program includes classes about the script (imaginary, filming, editing and documentary definition); research, film and interview the characters; the narrative sources (action, description, comentary and filming); the narrative techniques, and the documental production from the author’s view, as well as the producer’s, distributor’s and the public’s perspective.

Docúpolis close the 2007 entry call with more than 1.000 documentaries

Successfully and without precedents, the International Documentary Film Festival of Barcelona reaches, in his seventh edition, a documentary record of participation with more than one thousand enrolled documentaries for participate in its international
section.
We will like to thank for the enthusiasm and the confidence of all those that anywhere in the world make Docúpolis the reference in Europe for the documentary all over the world.

The "Best Catalan Documentary Production Award" proposed this year by
Docúpolis has been canceled by lack of quorum. The amount of
documentary presented to this category is not sufficient to make a
selection and the award.

DOCÚPOLIS has a new deadline, we extend the registration period until the 15 th of June.

The Festival will take place at the Centre de Cultura Contemporània de Barcelona (CCCB). This year the festival will be from 3rd to 7th October 2007.

Deadline: 15th June.

The inscription is free and open for all the professionals, production companies, free lance and all the institutions that full fill with pre-established.
