Docúpolis hands Docúpolis award for Best Documentary to “The Red Race”, a Chinese film by Chao Gan.

The documentary shows the hard training of 6-year-old children, futur Olympic sportsmen.

Also were awarded “La Reina del Condón” by Silvana Ceschi and Reto Stamm, (Switzerland) as Best First Documentary; “Death Valley Superstar”, by Michael Yaroshevsky (Canada) as Best Short Documentary –also a special mention was awarded to “Rakushka”, by Dmitiy Lavrinenko (Russia). In OFF Docúpolis section was awarded the film “The Mosquito Problem”, by the Bulgarian Andrey Paounov.

Apart from the official categories, Docúpolis gave honorific awards. The award Tercer Ojo to Best experimental documentary was for “Solo”, by Maciej Pisarek (Poland); the Human Rights Award was for “Fighting the silence”, by Lles and Femke van Velzen (Holand); the best Latin-american Documentary was for Andres di Tella’s “Fotografías” (Argentina) and finally, the Audience Award was for “Mari Carmen España. El final del silencio”, by Martin Jonson and Pontus Hjorthén.

The showings follow on Docúpolis during the weekend, from 12am to 23pm

On Saturday starts Recovery section, wich is dedicated to the work of four Quebec writers

Documentaries follow on Docúpolis with a remarkably public afluence. During the days of the Festival there will be more screenings of the official sections and parallel activities. Tomorrow starts a new section in the Mirador of the CCCB, the Recovery section, in which Québec is the invited country.

On Sunday 5th at 20h will be handed the awards Docúpolis to the Best Documentary Film, Best First Documentary Award, and OFF Docúpolis Award. Also will be handed the honorary awards: Tercer Ojo Award to the best experimantal documentary, Best Latin American Documentary, Human Rights Award and Audience Award.

Docúpolis open its doors - Over 500 people assist to the world premiere of Mari Carmen España. El final del silencio.

The CCCB Hall was full. The chairs there were not enough for more than 500 people that wonted be present in the Docúpolis opening ceremony.

At 8.30pm, the ceremony started. After a brief saxo melody, the assistants could have a short advance of the documentaries that are competing for the Docúpolis prize in the next days: impacting images of several topics.

Subsequently talked Hugo Salinas, the director of the festival, who said that “although the difficulties, the illusion of the team made possible this new edition of Docúpolis”. Later was the turn of Martin Jönson and Pontus Hjorthén, authors of the documentary Mari Carmen España. El final del silencio, which was screened closing the act. The directors said they were “very happy to present the documentary in Spain”, the country who shares name with the main character of the film, Mari Carmen España. The documentary, 60 minutes of hard review about Franco dictatorship and Spanish Civil War sequels, was widely applauded by the assistance when it finished.

The documentary “MARI CARMEN ESPAÑA. The end of silence” opens Docúpolis in a world premiere
DOCÚPOLIS opens Tuesday September 30th at 20:30 with the Swedish documentary “Mari Carmen España. The end of silence.”
The documentary is a "road-movie" about two Swedish directors who travel around Spain trying to understand the relationship between Spanish people and its history. During the trip they know Mari Carmen España and they get shocked by her fight against the authorities in order to call for justice and give recognition to her murdered grandfather.

In the opening ceremony will be present the Swedish directors Martin Jönson and Pontus Hjorthén, authors of the documentary, and her main character, Mari Carmen España.

Docúpolis 2008 Seminar
We’ve opened the call for registering in the documentary cinema seminar that will be given by the director Isaki Lacuesta.

The period of summons for the Internacional Competition has already been closed. We want to thank you very much for the amazing volum of participation.
We’re very satisfied with this first stage of the festival that now enters to a pre-selection period that will take a few months.
From this pre-selection, the organisation will define the list of participant documentaries that, finally, will be exhibited in the 8th Edition of Docúpolis that will take place in the Center of Contemporary Culture of Barcelona, the CCCB.
We will communicate individually to the directors of the selected documentaries. The results will be published in our website. Good luck!

Docúpolis 2008 begins the period of inscription that will opened remain three months

Inscription: 1 of March until the 1 of June of 2008

Next March 1 begins the process of inscription of documentaries for the international contest of this eighth edition of the International Festival of Documentaries of Barcelona.

They will be able to take part all the persons, producers or entities that want to compete for someone of our four official and honorific prizes that are kept in our already eighth consecutive edition.

We expect to continue having the enthusiasm of the producers around the world that see in Docupolis an opportunity to plan and promote their work.

Docupolis 2008 will be celebrated as every year in the Centre Of Culture Contemporánia Of Barcelona, CCCB between the 1 and October 5.

The organization already works to define and to develop the new offers that will form the programming of this year.

The activities parallel to the contest will support the retrospective of country and of author and there will add a series of spaces and specific events that will give body to the appointment of October in the CCCB.
