DOCÚPOLIS HELDS A ROUND TABLE ABOUT JORIS IVENS

The event will take place on Friday 6th October at 20h00 in the Hall of CCCB and will count with the presence of Marceline Loridan-Ivens, André Stufkens -President and director of the European Foundation Joris Ivens- and Josetxo Cerdán, cinema teacher at the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona.

Enclosed to the Author Retrospective dedicated this year to Joris Ivens by Docúpolis, there will be one of the most expected events of the Festival, the round table about the figure of the great Dutch documentalist. This will count on the presence of the director’s widow, the filmmaker and President of the European Foundation Joris Ivens, Marceline Loridan. André Stufkens and Josetxo Cerdán will also join the round table in order to talk about the work, life and the present time of one of the most influent filmmakers of the history of the cinema and exceptional witness of key events of the last century (Spanish War, Cuban Revolution, Mao’s China and Vietnam).

These are the reasons why Docúpolis gives the Honorific Award El hombre de la Cámara which recognises the integrity of a whole trajectory, to Joris Ivens. In past editions it went to authors such as Santiago Álvarez or Eduardo Coutinho. The award will be given during the round table, and it is a portrait-collage of the filmmaker that Docúpolis has ordered to the plastic artist Fernando Alday.

After the round table the projections of the Retrospective Joris Ivens will start. Docúpolis has programmed 7 films from its trajectory (from The Teepee, a domestic movie made when he was only 13 years old, to Une histoire du vent, its last film, co-directed by his wife Marceline Loridan). In this first session three movies will be projected in the CCCB’s auditory at 22h00: De Brug, a mute description essay about the Koningshaven bridge in Rotterdam; Miseria en el Borinage, a life’s description of the miners of this Dutch region where Van Gogh lived; and À Valparaíso, an urban symphony made in 1962 with students of the Chilean city.

The projections of Joris Ivens Retrospective continue till Sunday.
